READy for Summer Book Campaign

The more kids read, the better readers they become! Help us send a new book home for the summer with children served by Blessings in a Backpack Frederick. This campaign is a collaboration between Blessings in a Backpack, Curious Iguana bookstore, Frederick County Public Libraries and the Literacy Council of Frederick County.

Together, we can…

• Put books in the hands of children who need them
• Combat “summer slide”- the decline in reading skills that can happen when school’s not in session
• Ensure that more kids are ready to read and succeed when school starts this fall

With your help, 1,000 Frederick County students in pre-k, kindergarten, and first grade will receive a brand new book in their backpacks before summer break begins!

To donate one or more of the titles on our READy for Summer book list:

• Bring a new book from the READy for Summer book list below to the Literacy Council or make a donation to the Literacy Council anytime through May 12th, designating the READy for Summer Campaign.  We will use the funds to purchase books from the list and deliver them on your behalf to Blessings in a Backpack.
• Purchase books through Curious Iguana’s website. Curious Iguana will deliver all books purchased through their website or in their store to Blessings in a Backpack.
• Purchase books from other retailers and drop off at Blessings in a Backpack, 1016 N. Market St. (black bins on back porch), or the Literacy Council of Frederick County, 110 E. Patrick St. (call 301-600-2066 for directions)
• Important: Donations must be titles on our READy for Summer book list. New books only, please. Book campaign ends on Sunday, May 12.
